Richard is a narcissistic con artist whose main method of operation (M.O.) is utilizing love bombing and gaslighting. “But how?” you ask.
Richard finds women through various dating sites, such as Plenty of Fish (POF), and then researches them through social media sites and possibly sites like Intelius and TruthFinder. He molds himself into what he believes or has discerned to capture his intended victim’s attention.
He will be the perfect gentleman – listening, attentive, and appear very interested in your past experiences. Beware! This is to glean more information he can use against you or to control you or situations.
He will bring you flowers or other gifts and insist on opening doors for you. Should you open one without waiting for him, he clamps his lips shut and tells you, “You have a Richard now! You don’t do those things.”
He will claim to have a connection to you early on and tell you he wants to explore it and see where it leads – vowing to delete whatever app he met you on so he can concentrate on just you. He may go so far as to tell you he had numerous women interested, but he chose you.
Richard will work to quickly integrate himself into every aspect of your daily life while telling you if it’s too much too soon, he can back off, but he hopes you won’t “push me away. I just want to make everything easier for you.”
He will proclaim the women he previously dated treated him like an ATM while simultaneously whipping out his debit/credit card to pay for things for you. Should you say something about it, he will brush it off with “You don’t make me feel that way, though. You aren’t asking. I’m doing/offering.”
If you withhold sex, heavy petting, or oral intimacy, he’ll tell you how sexy you are and question if you are as attracted to him physically/sexually.
He will lie about his jobs/careers. He’ll paint a picture of a life that never existed except only in his mind. He was a bouncer at a club, pastor/preacher of a church trained by a shaman, a fishing boat captain, a manager of a KFC, a car salesman, a paramedic, and a paranormal investigator. He’ll lay claim to being a bodyguard for some of the biggest names in country music (Tim McGraw, Taylor Swift, Alan Jackson, Wynonna Judd, Big & Rich). He did do a little unarmed security work for a few stars, but he’ll embellish – a lot! According to him, he was highly sought after by the stars because of his size and “I’m the best at the job.”
You’ll feel sorry for him because he’ll spin a tale about how he came from an abusive home. His father used to beat on his mom, him, and his siblings.
I could go on and on, but you get the drift. Some of it is true, but most of the background he will give you is false. It’s designed to make you feel safe, admire him for his “fame”, and lay a foundation of trust.
